Wang Xiaohan is one of the leading pianists in China, Steinway Artist. Graduated from the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Prof. Arie Vardi and Prof. Matti Raekallio. In 2010, he received his PhD degree with a perfect academic performance, the first in the university’s history. In 2012, he returned to his alma mater as a piano professor.
As the invited Artistic Director, Xiaohan Wang successfully held of the first Arthur Rubinstein International Youth Piano Competition in October 2016 in Beijing. The same year in August, he founded the Los Angeles International Piano Seminar in USA. He was invited to be the jury member in several prestige competitions such as: Artur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition and Tchaikovsky International Music Competition for young musicians.
As a top prizewinner of ARD Competition in Münich, the Van Cliburn Competition in USA and the Beethoven Competition in Bonn, he has appeared with major orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic and the German Bavarian Broadcasting Symphony. As a chamber musician, he has also collaborated with the famed cellist Mischa Maisky, Jerusalem Quartet and Takács Quartet. As a soloist, Wang has staged on the German Bavarian Broadcasting Symphony Hall, Russian Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and Israeli Tel Aviv Mann Auditorium. He was also invited to perform at several international music festivals such as the Ravinia Festival in USA, the Beethoven Festival in Germany, the Arthur Rubinstein Festival in Israel, the Hundred Pianists in the 20th Century concert series in Tokyo and the Concert for the 22nd Anniversary of Sino-ROK Diplomatic relation in Seoul.
Xiaohan Wang is a versatile artist, being eminent as a pianist, composer and conductor. Besides his career as a pianist, he also harvested remarkable achievements in conducting (he has conducted several renowned symphonies such as the Israel Symphony Orchestra) and composing. In 2007, his work A Lost Diary was awarded the 2nd prize at the Chinese Piano Composition Competition. In 2008, his violin composition Scene of the Chinese Village was awarded the 3rd prize at the Chinese Violin Composition Competition, which was then performed and recorded by the well-known Chinese violinist Ning Feng. His piano composition The Inspiration of Painting was elected as the compulsory piece for the 2007 Beethoven International Piano Competition in Bonn.
In piano education, Xiaohan Wang is dedicated to cultivating brilliant young pianists. A highly sought-after teacher at the Central Conservatory of Music, he was frequently invited as guest teacher at The Juilliard School, New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and as jury member of international music competitions. His students have garnered numerous awards in national and international competitions.
Xiaohan Wang’s music has been recorded into several CDs. His performance with the Köln Chamber Orchestra on Beethoven’s 2nd Piano Concerto, which was conducted by Helmut Müller-Brühl, was recorded and published by Naxos. Wang’s latest 2015 album, his on-stage performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, was published by the Austrian Recording Company Bravo Artists. He was taken as the cover star of the French journal Chopin.
