Morningside Music Bridge selects 63 Young Musicians for Summer Music Program in Warsaw, Poland

Morningside Music Bridge (MMB) has selected 63 musicians from ten countries to take part in its 22nd annual summer program. MMB embodies the highest international standards of excellence, bringing together outstanding young violinists, violists, cellists, and pianists aged 12 to18 from around the globe for a month of intensive music making. All students receive full scholarships.
Morningside Music Bridge 2018 takes place from July 4 to August 3 at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland, thanks to the support and cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland and the Chopin University. The Program offers a broadened performance experience by taking select students mid-July to Montepulciano, Italy, for two concerts at the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte festival.
Discovering the new crop of Morningside Music Bridge students each summer is like looking into a crystal ball and getting a sneak peek at the next generation of great classical artists, said Paul Dorian, Executive Director of MMB. Every year I am inspired as I witness connections being formed by students from around the world.
Nearly 300 musicians applied through an online audition. Applications were reviewed by a distinguished panel of faculty members, representing a spectrum of established musicians. The 63 students selected are from Austria, Canada, China, Germany, Israel, Palestine, Poland, South Korea, Taiwan, and United States. They include 20 violinists, 11 violists, 16 cellists, and 16 pianists.
MMB scholarships are also awarded to winners of prestigious youth competitions around the world where young musicians display exceptional artistic potential. This year, the Morningside Music Bridge Young Artist Awards were presented at the Johansen International Competition for Young String Players in Washington, D.C., and at the Menuhin Competition in Geneva, Switzerland.
Each year, MMB brings together some of the industrys most respected artists and teachers to guide, nurture, and inspire the young musicians. Guest faculty for 2018 includes renowned performers like violinist Midori and Chopin specialist, pianist Krzysztof Jab?o?ski, and accomplished teachers including violist Atar Arad and cellist Laurence Lesser.
For the past two decades, more than 1,600 young artists have benefited from the barrier-free music experience MMB offers. Alumni perform in the worlds major concert halls, record for industry-leading labels, and work for develop. Alumni include pianists Yuja Wang and Jan Lisiecki; violinists Ning Feng, Nikki and Timothy Chooi; cellist Arnold Choi; and violist Teng Li.
