William Coleman

William Coleman is the violist of the Berlin Kuss Quartet, performing at the Salzburg, Verbier, and Edinburgh Festivals, as well as at the Berlin techno-club, Watergate.
Chamber music partners include Isabelle Faust, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Miklos Perenyi, and Clemens Hagen. With the Kuss Quartet, he has recorded for Sony/BMG, Onyx, and ECM, and performed on the famous Paganini Quartet of Stradivaris, on loan from the Nippon Foundation.
He studied with Thomas Riebl and Kim Kashkashian, recently taking her class for three months during her sabbatical. Over the course of a decade, he regularly travelled to Budapest for lessons with Ferenc Rados.
He is Professor of Viola at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, has given masterclasses at Juilliard, and regularly teaches at Stanford University in California. He has served on the juries of the Tertis, Tokyo, and Geneva Competitions.
He plays the “ex-Tertis” Carlo Antonio Testore of 1735. He is married to Meesun Hong Coleman and they have two children, Elodie and Tessa.
