Ronald Copes

Violinist Ronald Copes is concertmaster of the Sunriver Festival Orchestra, Oberlin Orchestra, and University of Michigan Philharmonia; and is in the first violin section of the Casals Festival Orchestra, Nashville Symphony, and Marlboro Festival Orchestra. He has also appeared at the Colorado Festival, San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, Carmel Bach Festival, Tanglewood Festival, Roundtip Festival, Kneisel Hall Festival, Cheltenham Festival, Bermuda Festival, and Olympic Festival. Copes has been a member of the Juilliard String Quartet since 1997 and was a former member of the Dunsmuir Piano Quartet, Los Angeles Piano Quartet, Just Two, Montecito String Quartet, and Audubon String Quartet. He has also toured with the Marlboro Music Festival and Music From Marlboro. He has recorded on the CRI, Klavier, Orion, New World, Music Masters, Musical Heritage Society, Pickwick, and Modern Masters Collective labels. Copes has been on the faculty at Juilliard since 1997 and at the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival since 1987. He was formerly on the faculty at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Tanglewood; Music Academy of the West, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Marywood College. He attended the Meadowmount School of Music and holds a BM from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and a MM from the University of Michigan.
